This gang (+ 10 others), athletes of many sports, from 4 different schools, started their summer off with endurance sports training & wrapped it up on July 27th.

It was a GREAT summer of GUTS, and we're looking forward to seeing all of your athletic performances in the 2018/19 school year!

New accomplishments, new goals & new friends - all this happened because you made a commitment to stay fit!

Thanks to coaches Jon Wagner, Jared Anderson & Josh Jones for keeping these kids smiling, laughing and strong!

It was great to see lots of familiar faces & pretty neat to meet some new ones at today's GUTS kickoff picnic!

As we told the kids, bring a friend and / or bring a Mom or Dad to work out, we have a place for everyone! 

 

Welcome to all and we're looking forward to having some great times with these young folks and more to join the roster. 

  

Coaches Jon Wagner, Jared Anderson & Cheri Johnson are your designated leaders- with hopes of others

joining in yet, and the best part, is that there is a whopping mix of days, times, places to get your work out in! 

What ever you want to do, when you want to do it- just show up with your gear and great attitude! 

 

The weekly format will go something like this and the details will be on the GUTS Schedule on this site. This schedule begins the week of June 11th. 

 

Mondays -  4 -5:30 pm Mesabi East - cardio of the day  🏃,🚴,🚶,🏊🏻(running or cycling or hiking or swimming, etc)                         - Coach CJ 

Tuesdays -   1 pm, Mesabi East Fitness Center - 🏋️strength & core, Coach Jared;

                   6:30-8 pm EG high school - 🏃running- Coach JW

Wednesdays 4 - 6:00 pm ME / VA / EG / MIB  super sized 🏃group running - locations vary,                                                         carpooling available,  Coaches CJ & JW    

Thursdays - 1 pm, Mesabi East Fitness Center - 🏋️strength & core, Coach Jared; 

                   6:30-8 pm EG area- 🏃running- Coach JW

Official summer kick off to training! BBQ's / Ice Cream & Kickball.

 

Registration is open to any & all students, (not just skiers) 8th grade & up from ME / VA / EG / MIB schools.

 

$50.00 includes tech shirt, H2O bottle & training. $75.00 for 2 from same family, $100.00 for 3.

 

You choose the workout when it fits with your schedule!

 

Group running, cycling, swimming, hiking, strength & core, roller ski, ultimate frisbee to be held 4 x week, June - July 31 at various locations with area coaches.

2018 G.U.T.S. "Get UP & Train SMART" endurance training

  • open to ALL (not just nordic skiers) athletes in the area 8th grade & up
  • begins in June, wraps up July 31, 2-3 sessions weekly + organized events (Midnight Sun Run, Fisherman’s Pt 5k, Mesabi Trail Tour, etc. )
  • variety of coaches on board for running, strength, roller skiing, ultimate frisbee, etc.
  • $ 50.00 fee per person, $ 75.00 for two from same family.  Includes a G.U.T.S. tech shirt & water bottle.
  • work outs will be at Mesabi East / Giant’s Ridge / Eveleth-Gilbert
  • usually held in the later afternoon – times to be determined

Wrapping up the 2017/18 Season!

Wow! 21 skiers from our team took the Pepsi Challenge and skied 8, 25, or 50k!

Congrats & be proud of that post season accomplishment!! 

 

The banquet was super fun and full of wonderful stories of the season and a super great night to celebrate our four seniors!  

Lots of great company, food, memories, awards and smiles were shared.

 *The GR Ski Chalet & GR Ski Patrol closes shop at 4:30 now.

   You will not be able to utilize this facility after 4:30.

The 2017/18 high school nordic ski racing season is now a WRAP! 

But... 

 

THIS. IS. THE. BEST. TIME. OF. YEAR. TO. SKI. 

 

- It is.... warm.

- There is.... daylight. Till like 6pm ++ ! 

- And bonus of ... super fast snow under those skinny boards! 

- Then ya have.... freed up weekends... to ski those ultra fun citizen races! 

 

SKI RACERS. ARE. MADE. IN. THE. OFF. SEASON. (get crackin' ski friends!) 

 

Last week was tremendously filled with lots of great results! 

When skiers are happy with their races, us coaches feel the same!

Tuesday, Feb. 20th:  Annual Hot Dog Roast on the Trail, 4-6 pm at GR. For ALL team members & coaches.

                                  Meet in South Chalet. Skiing to the Hut on the Laurentian for a fire of dogs & smore's. 

                                  There is a bus for VA / EG / MIB skiers from the VA school. No bus for ME skiers- (no school on this day), 

                                  please find a ride! Time to turn in that equipment & uniform / jacket too. We will also check in

                                  equipment at the banquet. (Sunday, March 4th)
